The dutch artist Elout de Kok [1968 Oosterbeek], owner of Pixel Lab, is a multi-talent with a truly idiosyncratic way of expressing himself. A pioneer in the field of what could be called code-art, or software art, with a passion for nature and photography and a vision. “For me art is all about exploration, in styles and expressions, from figurative to abstract. At art school, they wanted to tell me that art is all about ”concept”. Whereas, for me, art is like magic, like a visual battery; where hidden inside some kind of deep creative energy and feelings are stored”, Elout explains. He grew up in the 1980’s and started coding machine-language at the age of 14/15. He knew back then already he wanted to make graphics for games. As one can read from his artwork, Elout’s passions were street-art and computer graphics. Under Pixel Lab, he writes his own software and creative tools, from 2D image filters, to 3D model generation.

Career
His passion for art got him into art school where he finished his studies computer-graphics at the HKU-Utrecht in 1988. Followed by his Masters of Arts degree (MA-ISCA) which he received in 1994 (HKU Utrecht/Middlesex polytechnics London).
Elout has managed to build a proper career as a multi-media artist. First as a VJ, later as a net artist and developer of creative tools. Under the Pixel Lab, he writes his own software and creative tools, from 2D image filters, to 3D model generation. “I started VJ-ing at parties in London (1993), all the 2D and 3D animations were done by hand at the time”, Elout tells,”then I started to write interactive animation and software; so I could scratch with the image, just like a DJ would scratch with a record/sound.”
